| Example of member coordinating "his own
thing...."
For many years, one fundraising
effort of the Canby Historical Society has been to sell
flattened newspapers to the floral industry. Herman
Bergman and others spent many hours sorting and
flattening newspapers. Herman then delivered them to the
nurseries and wholesale florists who used the papers for
wrapping their cut flowers. At 15 cents a pound, this
fundraiser nets us approximately $1,000 a year! Herman
was always eager for more papers and more help! We
lost Herman in July of 2007, but Ken Daniels, a Board
Member, has taken up the task of coordinating the
fundraising effort. Here's
how you can assist:
• Remove and discard all shiny, off-size or
half-sheets from the newspaper.
• Open the "double sheets" and smooth flat
• Continue this process with like-size sheets until
you build a stack 1-1/2" to 2" high.
• Fold this stack loosely into thirds and tie with
string.
• Keep dry and out of direct sun.
• Deliver to the Depot Museum at 888 NE 4th
Avenue,
Canby, Oregon;

Thanks for your help in this simple but labor
intensive project! |
