A WORD FROM OUR PRESIDENT
Even though we're into March, this is the first opportunity I've had to wish you all a very Happy New Year! Spring is all about beginnings, and CHS is gearing up for another busy year full of events and activities. We hope you'll join the fun and help make it another successful year for us.
I want to welcome all of our new and returning members to CHS this year. You are a special part of our organization and you are helping, in no small measure, to preserve Canby's history and pioneer heritage. That is our Mission Statement and always our ultimate goal. As with any organization, there is always room for improvement. We hope you will let us know how we can improve CHS; this is your Organization and all suggestions and opinions are gladly accepted.
Whether you are a new, or returning visitor, you should not pass up the opportunity to stop by our Depot Museum. Volunteers, contributors and our own Exhibits Committee have worked tirelessly in preparation for our March re-opening and we are excited about our new exhibits and displays. Leta Belleque, a local artist, has created a Mural for us; Ed Holbrook, a CHS Member, has designed a Boy Scout exhibit in celebration of 100 years of Scouting; our display of Canby's history-at-a-glance will take you on a trip through time; and we have a new library area for research. There are many more new exhibits, so suffice it to say, our Museum has been given a face-lift and we hope you'll take the time to see it all!
As usual, we have a year packed with events and hope you'll attend all of them. Our Spring Flea Market is March 27, our Herman Bergman Memorial Pancake Breakfast will once again kick off General Canby Day, and don't forget our Fall Flea Market on September 18. Something for everyone, but I'm not done! Public Speaker meetings, Oral History interviews on OCTS, our Annual Member Meeting, St. Nick Day and our Christmas Party will close the year for us. We will announce dates and times for all of these events and will look forward to seeing you there!
We have adopted a new motto for CHS and when you walk into our Museum you will see it on our wall, so be sure and come by for a visit because "Your Journey Through Canby's History Begins Here"!
