The Canby Historical Society preserves our rich heritage and inspires an appreciation and understanding of Canby area history.
Objectives
To gather, preserve and make available a museum, records and other material relating to the history of Canby, Oregon and the area adjacent to Canby having natural, economic and cultural affinity.
To stimulate an interest in and knowledge of the locality's past.
To discover and/or collect any material which may help establish or illustrate the history of the Canby area.
To provide for the preservation of such material and for accessibility, as far as feasible, to all who wish to examine and study it.
To provide for the preservation of buildings, sites or monuments of historic interest.
To disseminate historical information and arouse interest in the past by publishing historical material, by holding meetings with addresses and lectures by sponsoring programs and by marking buildings, sites and monuments.
A Word from our President Cheryl Rahn
Welcome to the Canby Historical Society web-site and thank you for your interest in our organization. As we begin the new year of 2008, I am honored to be serving as President. This year we are celebrating our 40th anniversary and plans are underway to observe this special occasion in our community. Watch this site for future developments and plans to be announced soon.
As our town grows, it becomes more important to remember the past and preserve our heritage. This is the main objective of our organization. Our Board of Directors, members and volunteers all work tirelessly to keep history alive in Canby. The Depot Museum houses thousands of photos, artifacts, memorabilia and collections from local citizens. We try to have something of interest for all ages.
We invite you to visit our museum, become a member of our organization, volunteer for an activity, or attend our monthly meetings on the third Tuesday of every month. Please check this site for listings of future speakers. We also sponsor other activities that include: flea markets, held every March and October, 4th of July breakfast which kicks off our General Canby Days celebration, Canby 3rd Grade tours in the spring, and we publish our own yearly calendar.
Our organization is constantly changing and growing for the betterment of the community. We hope you will join us in our efforts.
